ABOUT ME

My name is Bryn Bentham, and I'm a Naturopathic Physician.  I have an insatiable curiosity for the medical sciences, and I'm energized by helping people.  Here's a brief synopsis of how I got to where I am now.

I knew from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine.  I always had a curiosity about nature and a desire to understand how things work.  That led me to an undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Victoria with a focus on biochemistry and cellular biology.  Having heard about Naturopathic medicine through my grandmother, I was drawn in by it's simple but profound philosophy (and I paraphrase)...

1 - First do no harm.
2 - Treat the cause of disease and not merely its symptoms.
3 - Work with the body's ability to heal itself, not against it.
4 - Consider the whole person.
5 - Be a teacher.
6 - Emphasize prevention.

Hearing of this philosophy combined with an internal drive whereby I feel nourished while others are being served, I embarked on the road to my chosen career as a Naturopath.

I started my post-graduate education at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto.  After a year of school, I decided to take time off to marry my girl and live in London for a couple years.  Whilst in the UK, I decided that I'd finish my education at Bastyr University in Seattle, considered by many to be the world's leading Naturopathic institution.

Upon the completion of my education, I returned home to British Columbia to complete a clinical residency at the Boucher Institute (Western Canada's only accredited Naturopathic Medical School).  I've since returned to my home town of Victoria and practice with Dr. Neil McKinney at Vital Victoria Naturopathic Clinic.

Other than that, I love fishing, gardening, watching hockey (Canucks, obviously), playing music, film-making, and vintage motorcycles.  I've got a son named Jude, and a wife whom I love.  Life is good.

Best,

B
